Incredibly, the art of Mosaic dates back to the second half of the 3rd millennium BC. This exquisite craft has had an indelible impact on architecture through the ages (including the Greek and Roman Empires). It’s amazing to think that a technique of laying small pieces of coloured stone is still relevant today. Whether as a feature floor, wall or garden mural, it’s designed to make a bold statement. Not surprisingly, Mosaic has filtered into different industries, including the world of horology. Brands such as Cartier, Jaquet Droz and Romain Gauthier have achieved fantastic results. However, if you want something more accessible, then it’s hard to look past the Edge Mosaic by Bomberg.

For the last 14 years, I have followed the progression of Bomberg and am a huge admirer of their achievements. They describe themselves as a brand that defies the ordinary with extraordinary designs and an unwavering commitment to quality. Certainly, I would pay testament to that. Interestingly, their timepieces are conceived collaboratively. Ultimately, this means everyone in the team has a creative input. In the last few years, I’ve reviewed many of their BB-01 automatic watches and was incredibly impressed with the overall aesthetic. In my opinion, the new The Edge collection has a more luxurious appearance than previous models. The Edge Mosaic perfectly illustrates this point.

What makes the Edge Mosaic so special is the multi-layered skeleton dial. Taking centre stage is a large skull comprising vibrantly coloured segments. The skull motif is one of Bomberg’s iconic symbols that represents identity, individuality, and a life well lived. Other stylish features include polished stainless-steel hands/indexes, a bevelled crown and a sapphire crystal lens. This entire splendour is encapsulated in a refined brushed steel architectural case. Dimensionally, the timepiece has a well-proportioned 43mm diameter, which is sure to be a crowd pleaser. The versatile design gives provision to wear for both casual and formal occasions.

At the heart of the watch is a self-winding movement developed, manufactured, and assembled by STP in Glovelier, Jura, Switzerland. The Calibre STP 6-15 comprises 26 jewels and oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. This mechanism is visibly showcased via the exhibition-style case back. Functionally, the Edge Mosaic features hours, minutes and seconds. The watch is also water resistant to a depth of 100 metres and has a power reserve of 44 hours.

As a perfect finale, the Edge Mosaic is presented on a tapered stainless steel bracelet with a complementary deployant strap. With a retail price of $2,895, I believe this watch is competitively priced. For more information, follow this link.
